On Wednesday, November 8, Grade 9 and 11 history students, in conjunction with the No Stone Left Alone Foundation, held a ceremony dedicated to honouring our fallen heroes by placing a poppy on each military grave at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in St. John’s. The ceremony started with student speakers paying tribute at the Cross of Sacrifice in The Field of Honour, the Last Post and a moment of silence, followed by the laying of the poppies as students took time to pay their respects at each headstone. This is the first No Stone Left Alone Ceremony to be held in Newfoundland, and we are thankful that we were able to be a part of it. These ceremonies are now held in all provinces across Canada. Thank you to the students for leading such a respectful and important act of remembrance, to Mr. Peters, No Stone Left Alone representative B. Gen. DW Foster and the rest of the committee for organizing this event and to special guest Steve Austin from Veterans’ Affairs.
