In March of 2018, seven Grade 10 students – Ben McCarthy, Doyle Stone, Madison Hull, Zoe Baker Pike, Jessica Casey, Abby Moores and Maggie McCarthy – will travel to Sparks, Maryland, with Ms. Jessica Whalen to participate in the Ignatian Solidarity Network’s 2018 Arrupe Leaders Summit. The Arrupe Leaders Summit invites emerging student leaders from Jesuit high schools to deepen their understanding of “a faith that does justice”. Throughout the three-day program, students explore The Student Leadership Challenge: Five Practices for Exemplary Leaders through the lens of Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J.’s life. Fr. Arrupe, a former Superior General of the Society of Jesus, is known for his strong leadership of the Jesuits during a tumultuous period in global history and a time of great transition for the Catholic Church and the Jesuits. An overnight stay in Washington, D.C. is also a part of this travel opportunity – students will be able to take in some of Washington’s famous landmarks and historical sights.
