Over the last few weeks we’ve re-introduced The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award into the school’s extracurricular program.

A parent’s information session was held followed by a student session, both conducted by Trudy Carlise, Executive Director of the program.  To date thirty-three students have expressed interest in the program.

A group of eight parents have agreed to become actively involved in the coordination and delivery of the program assisted by moderators, Mr. Chris Peters and Mr. Tom McGrath.

The Award is a non-competitive programme in which participants set and achieve personal goals for community service, skills, fitness, and adventure. It is a great way to explore new interests and try new challenges you might not have done otherwise, and even stretch your ‘comfort zone’. The Award is open to all young Canadians age 14 yrs to 24 yrs old, and has 3 levels:

  • Bronze (for ages 14 yrs and up)
  • Silver (for ages 15 yrs and up)
  • Gold (for ages 16 yrs and up)

Participants can expect to spend at least 6 months completing the Bronze level, and a year or more on Silver or Gold, depending on whether the participant registers as a direct entry or continues from one level to the next. You must complete your Award before your 25th birthday.  For more information on the award check them out at www.dukeofed.org/about-the-award .

We are encouraging interested students to see Mr. Peters and register online at:

A meeting will be held for new registrants shortly.
