In November our Wind Ensemble were winners of the national award for Canadian Music Class Challenge, Category 5 – High School Instrumental. The ensemble had recorded “CBC Olympic Theme” by Marc Cholette (arranger: Grayson Mathews) which is the theme music for the CBC coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.Part of the award for winning the Canadian Music Class Challenge was an opportunity for the winning pieces to be piece to be played during the CBC Olympic Broadcast.
Beginning at 12:30pm on Thursday, February 15, our school community came to together to watch the Olympic broadcast in our gymnasium. A quick snippet of the performance was shown early on and a number of live shots of our students were shown during the broadcast. Then around 1:20pm the full performance was played with Olympic graphics woven throughout the video. While the video was playing the excitement in the room was electric.
CBC’s Here and Now joined us to capture the moment, and Carolyn Stokes interviewed Ms. Etchegary and members of the Wind Ensemble about seeing their performance played during the Olympics.
