Experience a New Culture, a New Language, and a Different Way of Life

WHO: Applications are invited from Grade 10 & 11* students to participate in an Easter 2018 Service Trip to El Salvador. This service opportunity is in partnership with our fellow Jesuit school in Winnipeg, St. Paul’s High. Joining us on the trip will be students from St. Paul’s and their President, Fr. Len Atilia and teacher, Dennis Kuzenko. Mr. Kuzenko has organized and lead a number of these service trips to El Salvador for St. Paul’s.

*Priority will be given to Grade 11 students

WHAT: Six students will travel with Ms. Gabrielle Martin to El Salvador to participate in St. Paul’s annual El Salvador Service Trip. As the focus of this trip is service, a large portion of each day will be spent working on community projects. This work includes intense manual labor.

WHEN: Depart Saturday, March 24th and return Monday, April 2nd, 2018

WHERE: We will fly to Toronto where we will meet up with the contingent from St. Paul’s. Together we will travel to San Salvador, El Salvador. We will be staying at Casa Oasis in San Salvador, and will travel into surrounding communities to participate in social, cultural, and service experiences.

WHY: This trip will allow students to experience a new culture and the realities of life in a developing country. In keeping with our mission to form men and women for and with others, this opportunity will facilitate a commitment to awareness and social justice on a global scale.

Participating in a service trip is a privilege that must be approached with prayer, wisdom, and discernment. Students are required to participate in pre-trip preparation, on-sight experiences, and post-trip reflection. Students will meet with Ms. Martin for these preparation/reflection meetings several times throughout the school year.
